Sure Start is a Government programme aiming to bring together early education, childcare, and health and family support.
Sure Start Children’s Centres are places where families with children under five years old can get easy access to local services, advice, information and support.
The aim of Sure Start Children’s Centres is to improve outcomes for all children, and to give each child the best start in life. The way they do this is to make sure that every family has easy access to high-quality integrated services in their community.
Lots of services are brought together by the Children’s Centres so that children under five years old, and their families, can receive the advice, information and support they need. These services vary according to centre but may include:
- integrated early education and childcare
- support for parents – including advice on parenting, local childcare options and access to specialist services for families
- child and family health services – ranging from health screening, health visitor services to breast-feeding support
- helping parents into work – with links to the local JobCentre Plus and training.
